I sometimes come across wonderful vintage and antique shirts of various kinds. Often they have been repaired and often they also need repair. I like to use visible mending techniques and because it’s likely they will need repair in the future I include with them a carefully selected sachet of mending materials, specific to each shirt. Mending shirt 004 is very special. Made from hand loomed hemp (I’m pretty sure) in the traditional smock style with beautiful tucking inserts on the shoulders. I think it’s from the late 1800s, but still so wearable today! I’ve repaired a hole on the back shoulder and re bound the cuffs a bit. I can’t bring myself to cut into this for pockets so its staying just as it was originally made.
